Meaning & Significance

Rupam dehi, jayam dehi, yasho dehi, dvisho jahi is the recurring request. The goddess’s names and the episodes of Mahishasura, Raktabija, Chanda–Munda and Shumbha–Nishumbha recall the Devi Mahatmya narrative. Requests for form, victory, honour and protection are the text’s prayer, not guarantees of outcomes.

This is Drik Panchang’s twenty-five-verse sequence: Jayanti Mangala precedes Jaya Tvam Devi. Sanskrit Documents has twenty-seven verses, reverses the first two, includes a separate Dhumranetra verse, and separates the spouse and ocean-of-worldly-life passages. Its distinct preliminary meditation verses are not added to the selected opening here. The recensions have not been silently combined.

The introductory assignment and salutation are also numbered as reading entries, so core verse one is entry three. This page does not independently establish a particular Purana edition’s chapter. All meanings are independently authored from the Sanskrit.

25 core verses; 27 reading entries including the assignment and salutation. Most verses are in Anushtubh.

How to Chant
